Alan Wake 2: How to Save and When You Can Save
- Last updated on
Learn how and when to save in Alan Wake 2. This guide provides instructions on how to save and also includes information on when you can do so!
How to Save
Saving in the Break Room
You can save your game in the Break Room. There are two options for saving: quick save without using save slots, and manual save where you can choose a save slot. If you want to keep separate save data for each chapter, make sure to do a manual save.
No Break Room in Some Chapters
In some chapters, there are no Break Rooms. So, manual saving will not be possible. Instead, you can use the autosaves that are created when progressing the story or collecting items.
When You Can Save
When You Reach the Break Room
You can manually save when you reach a Break Room. Having a separate save file you manually created allows you to freely continue your gameplay outside of checkpoint autosaves.

When the Story Progresses
Automatic saving occurs when you progress the story and reach certain checkpoints. If you don't mind keeping your save data like this, you can rely on the auto-saving feature.

When You Obtain Collectibles
Automatic saving occurs when you obtain collectibles. You can cleverly use uncollected collectibles as alternative save points if there are no Break Rooms or story checkpoints nearby.
