Move with L stick
You can access the map from the menu screen's Map tab. Remember that you can move around using the L stick, and you can zoom in and out using the R2 and L2 triggers.
Display Biomes with D-pad up
While viewing the map, press D-pad up to display the biomes. Some gathering items can only be found in specific biomes, so it's good to remember this.
Set Markers with X and △ buttons
While viewing the map, you can set waypoints by pressing the X button. During gameplay, the direction and distance to the set waypoint will be displayed at the top of the screen. Additionally, you can set custom markers with the △ button to mark anything you like.
