Building a Coal Mining Base for Automatic Mining
Directions Map | Exterior |
---|---|
Since coal is an item that is needed in large quantities, it is most efficient to build a base where it is abundant. A recommended location is on a cliff north of the Mossanda Forest waypoint, where other materials like ores can also be mined.
Mining Pals with Mining Suitability Level 3 or Higher are Required
Even if materials like coal or ore are within the base's range, only Pals with a mining suitability level of 3 or higher can automatically mine these items, so be cautious. Pals with a mining suitability level of 2 or lower will not mine coal, so raise your Pals levels.

Manually Mining with a Mining Pal
Coal can be obtained by mining the black ore found on the field. While it's possible to manually mine using a higher-tier pickaxe, it's more efficient to mine with a Pal that has mining skills. So, bring a Mining Pal along for the task.

Digtoise |
【Work Aptitude】 MiningLv3【Partner Skill】 When activated, enters Shell Spin state. Rotates while following the Player, efficiently breaking ores. |
When heading out to mine coal, it's recommended to capture a Digtoise for mining purposes. By crafting a Digtoise's Headband at the Pal Gear Workbench, the Partner Skill "Drill Crusher" can be activated, allowing for efficient breaking of coal ores.

Increase Carrying Capacity with Wumpo and Wumpo-Botan
Pal | Partner Skills |
---|---|
Wumpo |
Can ride on its back for transportation. While in the inventory, Wumpo will carry items for the player, increasing the player's carrying capacity limit. |
Wumpo-Botan |
Can ride on its back for transportation. While in the inventory, Wumpo-Botan will carry items for the player, increasing the player's carrying capacity limit. |
If you plan to manually mine, bring along Wumpo or Wumpo-Botan, which significantly increase your carrying capacity. Both Wumpo and Wumpo-Botan can increase the carrying capacity limit by 120 per creature without the need for Pal concentration, making them more beneficial than other carrying capacity-increasing Pals.

By having a Pal with the Passive Skill called Mine Foreman in your inventory, you can boost your mining efficiency. Since the effects of Passive Skills stack and add up, having this skill on all five Pals in your inventory can potentially increase your mining efficiency by a maximum of 125%.

Defeat or Capture Specific Pals
Coal can be obtained by defeating or capturing specific Pals. However, it is not very efficient to collect coal in this way, as it is quicker to search for ore nodes that yield coal rather than searching for Pals that drop coal.

Uses of Coal
Using Coal as a Material
Coal cannot be used as a material as it is, so it needs to be refined into ingots using the Improved Furnace or transformed into Carbon Fiber using the Production Assembly Line before being used as a material. Both Refined Ingot and Carbon Fiber have a wide range of uses, so it's recommended to build a coal base and gather a large amount.
