How to Initiate a Standoff

Duel

Steps for Standoff
1 Approach the enemy who is not enegaged in combat
2 Press the up button on the D-pad when prompted for a duel at the bottom of the screen
3 Hold down the triangle button
4 Release the triangle button when the enemy attacks

Combat when Not Detected

The player can only initiate standoff when the enemy is not engaged in combat or on alert. If you win, you can defeat the enemy with a single blow and recover large amount of resolve. However, failure to time your attack will significantly reduce your health.

Standoff with the Nearest Enemy

When initiating a standoff, it will be with the opponent closest to Jin. Choose your desired opponent by approaching them. Get closer to the enemy you want to defeat first, such as those who are strong or have special attack patterns.

Tips for Standoff

One-on-One Battle

Wait for the Enemy to Strike

Depending on the location, it may be difficult to see due to terrain or fallen leaves but try to focus on the enemy's movements without looking around. If you release your weapon after the enemy strikes, you can win.

Anticipate Feints

In a standoff, the enemy may try to feint. In the case of a feint, they will only make a slight movement to intimidate you, so release the triangle (△) button when you swing your weapon with all your might.

Engage in Standoff Battles with Commanders and Large Enemies

Standoffs are fought against the enemy closest to Jin. Approach and engage in battle with tough opponents like commanders and large enemies. Even against strong enemies, you can defeat them with a single blow in a standoff.

How to Obtain the "All in the Wrist" Trophy

Defeat 5 Enemies in a Single Standoff

How to Obtain "Eight Arms and Six Legs" Trophy in Ghost of Tsushima

You can obtain the "All in the Wrist" trophy by defeating 5 enemies in a single Standoff. Fully upgrade the Sakai clan armor and learn the "Improved Standoff Streak" skill.

Furthermore, if you want to engage in a one-on-one battle with 5 enemies, it is recommended to head to the Mongol stronghold. Although groups of 5 or more enemies appear along the way, if you go to the Mongol stronghold, there is a high chance that 5 enemies will appear simultaneously. So, once you have upgraded the Sakai clan armor and learned the "Improved Standoff Streak" skill, head to this stronghold.
