The Grapple Hook can be obtained by visiting Takashi, who is at the blacksmith in the main quest "The Iron Hook" under Act 1: Rescue Lord Shimura. The grappling hook is not only useful for quest progression, but also for exploration, so it is recommended to obtain it early.

How to Use the Grapple Hook

Hooking onto Trees and Jumping

To use the grappling hook, hook onto a tree with the red and white rope by pressing R2. After hooking onto the tree, build up momentum and then press ✕ to jump. This allows you to leap to distant rocky areas and other locations. But be careful! If you don't have enough momentum, you may not reach your destination and fall. Always build up momentum using the L stick before jumping.

Hooking onto Temple Roofs and Climbing

Ghost of Tsushima_Climbing onto Temples

There are points on the corners of temple roofs where you can use the grappling hook with a white cloth wrapped around it. Jump near a grappling hook point and press R2 to hook onto the corner of the roof and climb up to the top of the temple. There may be items at the top of the temple, so if you find a temple where you can use the grappling hook, give it a try and climb up.

Additionally, you can obtain hidden vanity gears on buildings and pagodas. In particular, there is a high chance of finding hidden equipment on the rooftop of pagodas, so use the grappling hook to aim for the top floor of the pagoda.
