How to Defeat Clickers

Using a Knife for Stealth Kills

Clickers can be stealth killed by slowly approaching them while holding a knife. Since Clickers have no vision, you can approach them from the front. However, don't make loud noises as it will alert them. Ellie always carries a knife, but Abby needs to craft a shiv.

Using a Bow or Crossbow for Stealth Kills

Clickers have a lot of health, a headshot from a pistol equipped with a silencer won't take them down in one hit. Therefore, when stealth killing Clickers from ranged, use the bow or crossbow. With a headshot from the bow or crossbow, you can take them down in one hit without alerting nearby enemies.

Stop moving when Clickers make a clicking sound

Clickers are sensitive to sound, so even walking a little too fast can alert them. Clickers make a clicking sound to sense their surroundings, so when you hear it, stop moving and wait patiently until they start walking again.

Stay away especially if they're alerted

If you are detected by a Clicker, don't let them catch you because it will be an instant kill. Close combat is dangerous, so it is recommended to take them down with a gun from a safe distance.

Take them down using the Shotgun

Clickers have more health than Runners, so they attack without stopping even when shot with handguns. If you can't fight from afar, use a Shotgun. It's possible to take them down even with one shot to the torso.

Effective Weapons Against Clickers

Bow and Crossbow

To defeat Clickers in one shot, use a Bow or Crossbow. Both the Bow and Crossbow can take down Clickers from afar and without making any noise.

The Shotgun

The Shotgun does a lot of damage, allowing you to take down Clickers in one shot. Since being caught by a Clicker results in instant death, it's best to defeat them with the Shotgun before they get too close.

Molotov Cocktails

Clickers, like other infected, are vulnerable to fire, which means Molotov Cocktails are effective against them. However, using a Molotov Cocktail on a single Clicker may be a bit wasteful, so it's best to use it when dealing with multiple infected at once.

They have enhanced hearing abilities

Clickers have completely lost their vision and rely solely on their enhanced hearing to detect and attack humans. When they make clicking sounds to sense their surroundings, they can even detect humans making soft noises.

They have instant kill attacks

Getting caught by a Clicker is an instant death unless you use a shiv. Additionally, Clickers have a lot more health than Runners and may not flinch when shot with a handgun. It's dangerous to fight them up close so maintain a safe distance especially when detected.
