Joel Miller's Characteristics
A Strict yet Kind Father Figure to Ellie
Joel, the protagonist of the previous game, may appear tough with his rough way of speaking, but underneath the gruff exterior lies a kind and caring heart. In The Last of Us, he and Ellie embarked on a journey together through the post-apocalyptic world, forging a bond of trust that transcended a typical parent-child relationship. However, an event two years prior left their relationship strained.
Lost His Daughter
Joel had a beloved daughter named Sarah, whom he lost during the outbreak of a pandemic 25 years ago. While trying to escape from infected individuals, Sarah was bitten and ultimately succumbed to the infection. Joel sees similarities between his deceased daughter and Ellie, who is close in age and shares many of Sarah's personality traits. He feels a sense of affection towards Ellie, similar to that of a father's love for his child.
Living with Ellie in Jackson
After the events of the previous game, Joel is living peacefully in Jackson with Ellie and Tommy. It is evident that Joel still has the same affection for Ellie, treating her like his own daughter. This is evident when he confronts Seth for mistreating Ellie in Jackson.
