9 Enter the door with the red button.
10 Defeat the clicker and pry open the door with the red button in the back to proceed.

Prepare for a Boss Fight

In Ground Zero, a giant infected known as the Rat King appears. It has a lot of health and will instantly kill you if it catches you. Use the Flamethrower to deal significant damage. It is also recommended to upgrade weapons like the Double Barrel Shotgun or Hunting Pistol at the workbench before facing the boss.

How to Defeat the Rat King and Effective Weapons

Upgrade high-damage weapons at the workbench

The Last of Us 2_Enhancing weapons at the workbench

There is a workbench in the room with the generator, so upgrade your weapons there. It is recommended to upgrade the damage of either the Double Barrel Shotgun or the Hunting Pistol.

Craft incendiary shells and pipe bombs

The Last of Us 2_Crafting ammunition and bombs

Since the Rat King is weak against fire, it's a good idea to craft incendiary shells for the Double Barrel Shotgun and pipe bombs. If you can't craft the shells yet and have extra supplements, consider upgrading Abby's Firearms skills to unlock the recipe.

Switch to the Flamethrower before checking the ambulance

The Last of Us 2 - Switch to Flamethrower before examining the ambulance

When you examine the surgical tools inside the ambulance, the boss fight will immediately begin. It is recommended to switch to the Flamethrower in advance so that you have an advantage at the start of the fight. Make sure to reload your other weapons as well.

Defeating the Rat King

When examining the surgical tools inside the ambulance, a giant infected called the Rat King will appear. Since getting caught results in instant death, the basic strategy is to run around the floor and keep your distance.

How to Defeat the Rat King and Effective Weapons

Start by dealing damage with the Flamethrower

Start by dealing damage with the Flamethrower

When the Rat King appears, switch to the Flamethrower and deal heavy damage. It's okay to use up all your fuel. Once you've dealt a certain amount of damage, Stalkers will separate from the Rat King's body.

Switch to the Double Barrel Shotgun when the Stalkers appear

Switch to the Double Barrel Shotgun after the stalkers appear

After the Stalkers appear and you've run out of fuel for the Flamethrower, switch to the Double Barrel Shotgun, then run around to kite and shoot from a distance. Ignore the Stalkers and focus only on the Rat King. Keep your distance, switch weapons when you run out of ammo, and repeat.

Run around if you're in trouble

Dealing with the Rat King is similar to dealing with a Bloater. Just keep running around, dodge its charges, shoot when you have the chance, and maintain a safe distance. Repeat this and you can efficiently defeat it.

Defeating the Stalkers

When you follow the Stalkers into the duct, you'll engage in combat with them. Stalkers are agile and difficult to spot even with R1 (Listen Mode), so it's best to rely on their sounds to locate them.

Reduce their health with the Flamethrower

There is Flamethrower fuel scattered throughout this floor, so pick them up and switch to the Flamethrower to quickly reduce their health. After that, a few shots should be enough to defeat them.
