This is a Melee (Hand-to-Hand Combat) Guide for Resident Evil 4 Remake! Learn how to trigger melee attacks and tips for effectively dealing damage!
Conditions for Performing Melee Attacks
When an icon appears above the enemy
A melee attack is triggered by pressing the corresponding button when an icon is displayed above the enemy's head. However, even if the icon is displayed, you cannot perform the attack if you are far away from the enemy. Therefore, try to close the distance with a dash and attack with a melee attack.

Be aware that the icon is not visible when there is distance
The icon displayed as a condition for performing a melee attack will not appear on the screen if you are far away from the enemy. Melee attacks on enemies that are far enough for the icon not to appear are often difficult to reach even with a dash. It is recommended to be fully prepared for the next attack, such as reloading or healing.
Tips for Triggering Melee Attacks
Attack the Enemy's Head
To trigger a melee attack, it is highly recommended to hit the enemy's head. Attacks to the head deal high damage, so combining melee attacks with follow-up attacks can inflict significant damage on the enemy.
Attack the Enemy's Legs
To trigger a melee attack, attack the enemy's legs. Especially for enemies whose heads have transformed after being defeated and revived, it is recommended to trigger melee attacks by attacking their legs, as it can be difficult to hit their heads.
Successfully Parry
Melee attacks can also be triggered by successfully parrying. However, parrying consumes the durability of the knife and there is a risk of taking damage if you are not familiar with it, so it is more reliable to shoot the enemy's head or legs for minor enemies.

Hit with Flash Grenade
Melee attacks are also triggered by hitting with a flash grenade. Flash grenades have a wide-range stun effect, so it is efficient to move to a position where you can attack multiple enemies before triggering the melee attack. This allows you to damage the entire enemy group effectively.
