Strategies for Defeating Garrador

Move Silently While Crouching

Garrador primarily relies on its sense of hearing and touch to locate and attack its targets. Therefore, it's crucial to move as quietly as possible while crouching to avoid detection. Doing so will make Garrador less aggressive and allow you to more easily target its weak points.

Maintain a Safe Distance to Avoid Its Attacks

Even when Garrador becomes less aggressive, it will still attack if you make physical contact with it. If it starts acting aggressively, make sure to put some distance between you and it to avoid being hit.

Aim for the Parasite on Its Back

Garrador's weak point is a parasite that's located on its back. When it's in a calmer state, aim carefully at the parasite to take it down quickly. It won't respond unless it hears loud noises, so be as quiet as possible while taking aim.

Be Prepared for Counterattacks After Firing

If you use your gun to shoot Garrador, it will react to the noise and attempt to counterattack. Take precautions like taking cover behind obstacles to mitigate the risk of getting hit.

Defeating Garrador Using Only a Knife

Choose the Underground Dungeon in Chapter 7 for the Battle

If you're going for the "Never Heard It Coming" trophy by defeating Garrador with only a Knife, it's advised to confront him in the underground dungeon during the latter part of Chapter 7. This location is ideal because Garrador appears alone, making it easier to take him down and secure the trophy.

How to Position Yourself Behind Garrador

As soon as Garrador appears, crouch and carefully move behind him without making any physical contact. As long as he is unaware of your location, he is less likely to attack, allowing you to move more freely.

If Positioning Fails, Use the Knife Once

If you're unable to get behind Garrador—say, because he's backed against a wall—then make a single Knife attack and retreat until he calms down again. Remember, you should only use the Knife to fulfill the conditions for the trophy.

Execute Heavy-Damage Knife Attacks

When you manage to get behind Garrador, approach until the Knife attack prompt appears, and then use the Knife to deal a significant amount of damage. Be careful to not get too close, as Garrador will counter with a claw attack if you make contact.

Keep Your Distance Until Garrador Calms Down

After you've attacked Garrador, keep your distance until he stops attacking. Once he's calm, you can crouch and start approaching him again for another attack.

Continue the Attack-Retreat Cycle Until He Is Defeated

You will need to land multiple Knife attacks from behind to defeat Garrador. Continue the pattern of attacking and retreating until you have successfully taken him down. Using only the Knife is not only a requirement for the trophy but also a viable strategy for regular gameplay.

Collect the "Red Beryl" Gemstones

After defeating Garrador, you will receive gemstones known as "Red Beryl." These can be combined with other treasures to increase their resale value, so make sure to collect them.

Earn the "Never Heard It Coming" Trophy

By defeating Garrador using only a Knife, you'll earn the "Never Heard It Coming" trophy. The trophy is relatively easy to obtain; you just need to wait for Garrador to calm down after each series of attacks and then continue attacking him with the Knife.
