Naming and Changing Your Character's Name
Choose Any Name at the Start of the Game
You can choose any name for your character at the start of the game. Once the name is confirmed, it cannot be changed unless you reset the game, complete a Genocide Route, or edit your SAVE files.
Name Change is Only Possible with True Reset or completing a Genocide Route
Changing your name in the game is only possible with True Reset or completing a Genocide Route.
Name Change is also Possible through Editing the SAVE files
You can also change the name by modifying the save data. You will have to edit a file named file0 with a text editor.
Names with Special Dialogue
Play in Hard Mode with the Name Frisk
When starting the game with the name Frisk, you can play in Hard Mode. In Hard Mode, you can only play up to the Ruins. Additionally, the monsters you encounter are much stronger and their levels significantly higher.

| Toriel | I think you should think of your own name, my child. (Not selectable) |
| Asgore | That name won't do. (Not selectable) |
| Flowey | I already CHOSE that name. (Not selectable) |
| Asriel | ... (Not selectable) |

| Bpants | You are really scraping the bottom of the barrel. |
| Gaster | The game will forcibly restart. |
When entering any of these special names on the name input screen, various dialogues can be seen. Some of these are unavailable, and some just have some fun dialogue with it.
