Things to Do in N Route Hotland

Prepare Recovery Items Before Proceeding

Before advancing through Hotland, make sure to stock on recovery items at the shop in Waterfall. There are no shops in Hotland until you reach the Hotel at the end. It is highly recommended to go back to Waterfall or Snowdin.

You Can Choose to Defeat or Spare the Monsters

If you have defeated at least one monster before reaching Waterfall and haven't locked yourself into the G Route at Ruins, you can proceed with the N Route.

The same is true if you haven't defeated any monsters until Waterfall and choose to spare all monsters in Hotland. The choice of whether to spare or defeat monsters is up to you.

Entering the Lab and Battling Mettaton

After entering Hotland, proceed to the right and head towards the Lab. Upon entering the Lab, a conversation event with Alphys will occur, leading to a battle with Mettaton. It is important to note that you will need to battle Mettaton multiple times until the final Mettaton EX battle.

Alphys Will Provide the Answers to the Quiz

The first encounter with Mettaton will be in the form of a quiz. Alphys, who is standing next to Mettaton, will use hand gestures to indicate the correct answer. Make sure not to rush and answer before confirming Alphys' response.

Have Alphys Upgrade Your PHONE

After the battle with Mettaton, have Alphys upgrade your phone. Once upgraded, the dimensional box previously found in Snowdin and Waterfall will be accessible at any time through the "PHONE" menu.

Obtain Instant Noodles from the Lab's refrigerator

Examine the Instant Noodles in the Lab to obtain it as a recovery item. Since recovery items are not readily available in Hotland until later, make sure to collect these.

Riding the Arrow Floors to the Upper Area

After exiting the Lab from the right, continue along the path. As you progress, you will reach the Magma Chamber with arrow floors. Ride the arrow floor and proceed upwards.

Head Towards the Bottom Right to Obtain "Burnt Pan"

You can obtain the weapon "Burnt Pan" by heading to the bottom right. Equipping the Burnt Pan will increase the amount of HP recovered when using recovery items. Make sure to acquire it.

Proceed to the Right While Being Cautious of Lasers

When passing through the arrow floor area, Alphys will teach you about lasers. Proceed while moving through the Orange lasers and stop while moving through the Blue lasers to pass through without taking any damage.

Solve the Left and Right Puzzles to Proceed Upwards

To proceed to the next area, solve the left and right puzzles. Both puzzles allow you 2 shots. Move the panels so that 1 panel remains to clear them. Once you clear the puzzles, the door above will open and you can proceed.

Climb Upwards While Avoiding Mettaton's Attacks

After solving the puzzles and proceeding to the right, an event with Mettaton will occur. Take the instructed ingredients and place them on the table.

A mini-game also occurs where you need to climb up while avoiding Mettaton's attacks. At the top, you need to retrieve a can. Failing to clear the mini-game will not affect the progression of the story in any way.

Go to RIGHT 2F Using the Elevator

After the event with Mettaton, take the elevator to "RIGHT 2F". After getting off, if you proceed to the left, you can purchase "Hot Dog...?" from Sans for 30G.

Ride the Conveyor and Press the Button While Moving

Ride the conveyor and move to the left while pressing the button. Alfie will instruct you to press three switches, but it's fine if you only press two.

Obtain Stained Apron by Going Down

Before riding the conveyor, take a detour downwards to obtain the armor item "Stained Apron". When equipped, the Stained Apron will restore 1 HP per turn during battles, so make sure to obtain it and equip it.

Proceed to the Left While Solving the Arrow Puzzle

When stepping on the floor with switches, you will jump in the direction the arrow is pointing. The arrow direction alternates, so use the changes to proceed to the left.

You Can Start Over by Riding the Conveyor

If you ride the conveyor flowing from the left to the bottom, you will return to the starting point and can start over from the beginning. If you get lost on the floor with switches, exit to the conveyor and start over.

Move Left and Fight the Royal Guard

To finish the Royal Guard battle, you can either defeat or let RGO1 and RGO2 escape. To clear without defeating them, choose "Polish Armor" when interacting with RGO2.

After selecting "Polish Armor," Green Armor will appear during the attacks. Avoid normal attacks and touch the Green Armor 5 times. After touching the Green Armor, whisper to RGO1 and their name will turn yellow, allowing you to let them escape.

Walkthrough Chart for Mettaton Battle (2nd Encounter)

Disarm All the Bombs and Proceed Right

After the Royal Guard battle, continue straight ahead to start the bomb defusal mini-game. When a bomb enters the defusal zone, choose the action "Defuse" or "Fight" and try to disarm all six bombs within 2 minutes. The water bomb moves around, making it difficult to defuse, but it will be fixed in the central area after disarming the remaining five bombs.

Proceed to LEFT 3F Using the Elevator

After the bomb defusal event, go right and take the elevator to "LEFT 3F". Once you get off the elevator, continue in the right direction and you'll encounter Muffet selling Spider Donuts for 9999G.

Solve the Puzzles Above and Move to the Right

After passing through Muffet's Spider Sweets pop-up sale, step on the arrow floor and solve the puzzles above and below. In the puzzles above and below, there is only one bullet, so you need to avoid all the panels. After solving the puzzles, step on the arrow floor and proceed to the right.

Battle Against Muffet

The battle against Muffet will be cleared by defeating or sparing her. To clear without defeating her, use Spider Sweets. Spider Sweets can be obtained cheaply in the "Ruins." If you don't have them, you must avoid attacks and repeat actions like "Act" or "Spare" to let a certain number of turns pass.

Prepare Multiple Recovery Items

If you don't have Spider Sweets, you need to avoid attacks and let a certain number of turns pass. Using recovery items also counts as turns passing. Prepare multiple recovery items before the battle against Muffet. If you can't obtain them in Hotland, go back to Snowdin or Waterfall to get them.

Mettaton and Events

After the battle with Muffet, there are two events with Mettaton. Both events will end over time, so it's okay if you fail.

Battling Mettaton (Second Time)

After the events with Mettaton, you will have a second battle with him. In this battle as well, you cannot defeat or spare Mettaton, so follow Alphys' instructions and press the "Yellow Button" from the "Actions" menu. After rapidly pressing the button, the battle with Mettaton will end.
