Adaptive Positioning on the Battlefield
Genji possesses the Wall Ride passive, enabling him to climb walls and execute double jumps, enhancing his mobility significantly. With a strategic understanding of the map, Genji can capitalize on high ground and flank positions based on the evolving battlefield situation, maximizing his effectiveness.
Unstoppable with Strategic Ability Use
Genji's Swift Strike may have low damage, but if it secures an elimination, the cooldown resets. This feature allows Genji to target foes with low HP, eliminate them, and promptly disengage from the immediate area. Furthermore, using Deflect, Genji can block incoming enemy attacks, showcasing his strength in swiftly engaging, eliminating, and withdrawing from the frontline.
Mastery Required for Main Attack
Genji's primary attack involves throwing shurikens, either in a burst of three or in a fan-shaped spread. This can be challenging for beginners, so it's advisable to practice in training grounds or similar environments to become accustomed to its nuances.
Strategy Guide
Key Points for Strategy |
---|
You can surprise attack enemies with low HP, move in three dimensions using wall climb, and cover your allies. |
Ambush Low HP Enemies
Take advantage of Genji's high mobility to ambush enemies with low HP. While Genji lacks sustained damage output, ambushing and finishing off enemies weakened by allies' attacks can create a numerical advantage for your team.
Three-Dimensional Movement with Wall Climbing
Harness Genji's wall climbing ability to move in three dimensions. By scaling walls and navigating paths inaccessible to other characters, you can surprise enemies with attacks from unexpected locations, enhancing your overall damage-dealing capabilities.
Provide Cover for Allies
Utilize Genji's Deflect to provide cover for allies. Deflecting enemy ultimates and shielding allies from potent threats like Bastion's firepower can be pivotal. Assess the enemy composition, and strategically time the use of Deflect to safeguard your teammates from imminent danger.
Countermeasures
Moira as an Anti-Pick Against Genji
Moira proves to be an effective anti-pick against Genji, leveraging her primary attack that doesn't rely on precise aim. Her consistent damage output, along with the inability of Genji's Deflect to block Moira's attacks, makes Moira a suitable choice to win damage races against Genji.

Exploiting Attacks that Bypass Deflect
While Genji's Deflect is a powerful defensive tool, it has limitations against certain attacks. Beam-based attacks, such as those from Winston and Zarya, bypass Genji's Deflect, making them effective choices when facing Genji in combat.

Compatible Characters
Ana
Activating Dragonstrike Sword with Ana's Ultimate
Coordinating Genji's Ultimate, Dragonblade, with Ana's Nano Boost is a powerful combination that maximizes the impact of both abilities. With the damage boost, increased durability, and faster movement provided by Nano Boost, Genji becomes a formidable force during Dragonblade. This synergy enables Genji to swiftly eliminate enemies, making it an effective strategy for team fights. Remember to communicate with your Ana to ensure proper timing and execution, turning the combination into a game-changing play for your team.

Ability, Details, and Use
Deflect
Effect of Deflect | |||
---|---|---|---|
Duration | 2 seconds | Cooldown | 8 seconds |
Effect | Deflect incoming projectiles towards the direction you are aiming and block melee attacks. |
Safely Evade Using Deflect
Deflect is used to avoid being taken down. Genji is agile, but his HP is low, so he can be easily taken down under concentrated fire. When your HP is low, use Deflect to protect yourself while heading back to your teammates or grabbing a health pack.
Be cautious of beam attacks that cannot be deflected
While Deflect can reflect most attacks, it cannot deflect beam attacks like Zarya's primary attack. If the enemy team has a beam-based character as a countermeasure against Genji, your strategy will become more challenging. In that case, consider switching to a different character.
Swift Strike
Effect of Swift Strike | |||
---|---|---|---|
Damage | 50 | Cooldown | 8 seconds |
Effect | Rapidly dash forward and inflict damage on enemies. Eliminations reset the cooldown. |
Use it as a finishing blow
Use Swift Strike to finish off an enemy. It allows you to move forward and deal 50 damage to an enemy. It is useful against enemies that cannot be defeated with normal shots, allowing you to take them down without missing your shots.
Cooldown resets even if an ally gets the kill
If an ally kills an enemy that you have damaged with Swift Strike, the Cooldown will still reset. By coordinating well with your teammates, you can use the ability repeatedly. So, make sure not to miss the enemies that your teammates have damaged and finish them off.
Ability Usage and List by Power |
【ULT】Dragonblade
Effect of Dragon Blade | |||
---|---|---|---|
Damage | 110 | Duration | 6 seconds |
Effect | Unsheathe a deadly melee weapon. |
Coordinate with Ally Ultimates
While Genji's Ultimate is potent on its own, its effectiveness reaches new heights when synchronized with support ultimates like Ana's or Zenyatta's. This combination creates an incredibly formidable force, overwhelming the enemy. Additionally, it synergizes well with crowd control ultimates like Zarya's, making it crucial to monitor your teammates' ultimate status and activate Dragonblade accordingly.

Corner Enemies with Swift Strike
Following the elimination of foes using powerful area attacks, leverage Swift Strike to close in on other enemies. Even if Swift Strike doesn't secure a kill, its cooldown resets upon eliminating an enemy with Dragonblade. As a result, managing Swift Strike becomes a seamless and impactful part of your strategy.

1 | Approach enemies with "Swift Strike" (50 Damage) |
2 | Immediately after "Swift Strike" ends, use your alt fire (3 Hits: 81 Damage) |
