Powerful Primary Weapon
Junkrat's primary weapon is the grenade launcher, boasting high damage output. Although it demands skill to compensate for bullet drop, the grenades, upon hitting the ground or walls, exhibit a bouncing behavior. When the grenades connect with enemies, they explode instantly, providing a relatively easier way to deal significant damage once you become accustomed to the mechanics.
Vulnerability While Using ULT
Junkrat's ultimate, RIP-Tire, gives him control over an exploding tire. During this control period, Junkrat is stationary, making it vital to choose a strategic location and timing to deploy the tire, minimizing the risk of being easily eliminated by the enemy.
Strategy Guide
Key Points for Strategy |
---|
Use your primary weapon is to shoot towards the enemy's path, get close to the enemy and utilize your bomb, and aim for enemies in closed spaces. |
Aim Main Weapon at Enemy Paths
Play as Junkrat by aiming your main weapon towards the enemy's path. Given the arcing trajectory and wall-bouncing nature of your projectiles, focus on targeting areas rather than directly aiming at enemies. Utilize this strategy effectively to overcome your opponents.
Close the Distance for Explosive Hits
Optimize Junkrat's potential by getting close to enemies and hitting them with explosives. The arcing nature of the projectiles makes accurate aiming challenging, but proximity increases the likelihood of hitting enemies. While this approach delivers high burst damage, exercise caution as Junkrat may face counterattacks. Sneak up from behind for strategic close-range explosive hits.
Exploit Confined Spaces for Targets
When playing as Junkrat, actively seek out enemies in confined spaces. The bouncing projectiles from your main weapon become formidable in tight indoor areas, making it challenging for enemies to evade. Seize these opportunities to eliminate foes strategically in confined spaces.
Countermeasures
Pharah is an Effective Counter to Junkrat
Junkrat's primary weakness lies in the short range of his main attack. Pharah's ability to engage from the air, where Junkrat's attacks can't reach, positions her as an effective counterpick.

Snipe from a Distance
When facing Junkrat on the opposing team, opt for sniping from a distance. Junkrat's high firepower is offset by a lack of precision in targeting enemies. To deal with him safely, consider using Pharah to snipe from the air or Widowmaker, who excels at shooting from elevated positions.

Self-Sufficiency in Action: Junkrat's Versatility
Junkrat stands out as a rare character in the Overwatch roster due to his ability to be self-sufficient in various situations. His primary fire, which launches projectiles in an arc, offers the flexibility to engage in long-range attacks with a keen understanding of their trajectory. What sets Junkrat apart is his ultimate ability, RIP-Tire, which can be deployed independently without relying on teammates for support. By strategically positioning himself in a safe location, Junkrat can unleash the power of RIP-Tire to disrupt the enemy team or secure eliminations, showcasing his unique self-sufficiency that allows him to contribute effectively regardless of the team
Ability, Details, and Use
Concussion Mine
Concussion Mine Effect | |||
---|---|---|---|
Damage | 100 | Cooldown | 8 seconds |
Effect | Throw a knockback mine with LSHIFT then detonate it with RMB. |
Useful as a finishing blow
Concussion Mine is a useful finishing blow. Junkrat, who has difficulty dealing accurate damage to targeted areas, can easily land a hit with Concussion Mine because the timing of the explosion can be determined. Aim for weakened enemies and finish them off with the explosion.
Can be used as a means of movement
Concussion Mine can be used as a means of movement for more mobility. The knockback effect of the mine can also propel Junkrat, so if you detonate it while jumping on the placed mine, you can jump higher. It is recommended when you want to secure high ground or move quickly.
Effective for escaping from enemies
Concussion Mine is effective when escaping from enemies. It is difficult for Junkrat, who lacks mobility, to escape when approached by melee characters. However, if you explode the mine between you and the enemy, both the enemy and Junkrat can gain space between them. If you feel danger, use the mine immediately to create distance.
Steel Trap
Effect of Steel Trap | |||
---|---|---|---|
Damage | 100 | Cooldown | 10seconds |
Effect | Set up traps to stop enemy movement |
Deploy in hard-to-see corners
It’s better to deploy Steel Trap in hard-to-see corners. It's a trap that is difficult for enemies to spot, but if Junkrat is around, they will also be wary of it and destroy it if it's placed in the middle of the road. It's recommended to place it in corners that are hard to notice and keep the enemy's movements in check.
Place together with Concussion Mine
It is recommended to place the Steel Trap together with the Concussion Mine. With the Steel Trap dealing 100 damage and the Mine dealing a maximum of 120 damage, you can get a long-range kill by detonating the Mine when it catches low HP support heroes or damage heroes.

【ULT】RIP-Tire
Effect of RIP-Tire | |||
---|---|---|---|
Damage | 600 | Duration | 10 seconds (max) |
Effect | Drive and detonate an exploding tire. |
Detonate in the Center of Enemy Clusters
It's best when RIP-Tire detonates in the center where enemies are clustered. The damage decreases the farther you are from the explosion, but it can deal up to 600 damage. Even at a distance, it remains lethal, potentially eliminating enemies in a single shot. Target areas where enemies gather for a chance to secure multiple kills.
Sneak from Behind Enemies
Approach enemies from behind and trigger the RIP-Tire. While the tire can be controlled with flexible movements, be cautious as Junkrat loudly shouts upon activation, alerting enemies. It's advisable to employ wall climbing to approach from behind, as going straight from the front may result in immediate destruction.
