Going to Professor Fig's Classroom
"Secrets of the Restricted Section" starts from Professor Fig's classroom. Open the map and enlarge the "Astronomy Tower" to see Professor Fig's Classroom and travel there using floo powder.
Talking to Sebastian on the Lower Floor
Talk to Sebastian after talking to Professor Fig. Sebastian is located at the end of the bottom of the T-shaped staircase in front of the "Defense Against the Dark Arts Tower" floo powder.
Learning Disillusionment in the Central Hall
When you talk to Sebastian, you will be transported to the Central Hall at night, where the infiltration of the library begins. Sebastian will teach you "Disillusionment," which is necessary to evade the prefects' patrols. After learning it, open the magic menu and allocate your magic points accordingly.
Quickly Trace the Incantation with Command Input During Learning
There is a time limit for tracing the incantation during the learning of "Disillusionment." If you fall behind the red incantation, the learning will fail. So, input the displayed commands and trace them quickly to increase your speed.

Effects and Unlocking Conditions of Disillusionment |
Proceeding Stealthily with Disillusionment
Since prefects patrol the lower floor, proceed while using "Disillusionment" to avoid being seen. Once you reach the door in front of the library, it's best to enter the door when the prefect patrolling near it turns right.
Game Over if Discovered
"Disillusionment" has a low stealth effect, and if you stay within the line of sight of a patroller for a certain amount of time, you will be discovered. If you are discovered, it will be game over and you will have to restart from the previous checkpoint, so make sure to quickly move away if you are about to be exposed.
Effects and Unlocking Conditions of Disillusionment |
Open the Librarian's Desk and Obtain the Key
Near the entrance of the library, there is a librarian's desk where the librarian guards the key inside. As soon as you enter, go to the bookcases on the left. Sebastian will create a distraction for the librarian and will pass by the area in front of the globes. During that time, collect the key from the desk.
Enter the Forbidden Shelf Using the Key
Once you have the key, proceed along the wall to the right of the desk and head towards the forbidden shelf area. However, if you go there too quickly, the librarian will turn around and spot you, so it is recommended to wait for a few seconds near the bookcases to bypass the librarian before heading there.
Lure Enemies by Attacking Armor and Walls
After unlocking the door and proceeding, a ghost will block the path. In order to proceed, you need to lure the ghost away by attacking armor and walls, and then quickly move forward while they are distracted.
Ignore the Midway Treasure Chests as They are Locked
The treasure chests in the ghost zone are locked and cannot be opened at the moment. It is recommended to ignore them and proceed for now, as even if you manage to reach them while avoiding the ghosts, it will be a wasted effort.
Use Reparo to Proceed Past Peeves
After descending the stairs from the ghost zone, you will encounter Peeves the Poltergeist. Once the event with Peeves is completed, you can use Reparo to repair the armor blocking the path and proceed.
Disillusionment can Open the Eyeball Treasure Chests
The eyeball treasure chests near Peeves can be opened by using Disillusionment and approaching them. Use Disillusionment in a position where you cannot be seen by the chest, and then approach it.

Investigate the Whirlpool and Enter Athenaeum
Proceed forward and investigate the ancient spell whirlpool, then head towards Athenaeum through the nearby gate. Note that you can still enter Athenaeum even after completing the quest. Don't worry if you missed any items.
Collect Equipment from Nearby Treasure Chests
The treasure chest on the left side of the whirlpool contains the "Silver Four-Eyed Glasses," while the treasure chest at the entrance of Athenaeum contains the "Royal Blue Chinese Firework Scarf." Equipping these items immediately after collecting them will greatly boost your stats and make boss battles easier.

Attack the Mechanism to Create Platforms and Proceed
Since there are no platforms at the entrance of Athenaeum, attack the rune mechanism on the upper side of the opposite bank with "Basic Cast" to create platforms. To aim at the mechanism, you can use the lock-on function or aim with L2 (Aim mode) for better accuracy.
Progress While Defeating Enemies With Ancient Magic
You will encounter the Pensieve Soldiers after solving the mechanism. It is recommended to use "Ancient Magic Throw" to throw nearby objects or "Ancient Magic" to deal devastating damage to enemies while progressing by defeating them.
It's Okay to Save Ancient Magic for Boss Battles
"Ancient Magic" deals a large amount of damage, but it takes time for the gauge to fill up and reactivate. If you want to save your strength for boss battles, it is also recommended to use Basic Cast to reduce HP without using "Ancient Magic".

Progress While Solving Two Types of Mechanisms
More mechanisms wait after defeating the soldiers. The first mechanism has platforms appearing from the far side and immediately returning, so quickly dash jump to the opposite bank before the platforms disappear.
The next mechanism changes the platforms every time you attack the rune. Attack the rune once and stand on the front side platform, then attack the rune again to make the back side platform appear. If you quickly jump over, you can break through.
Defeat 8 Pensieve Soldiers
After crossing two types of platforms, a total of 8 Pensieve Soldiers will attack. Use "Protego" to block melee attacks and weapon throws. Avoid jump attacks that cannot be blocked by "Protego". Use Basic Cast to steadily reduce their HP.
If you still have gauge left, using "Ancient Magic" is also effective. By reducing the number of Pensieve Soldiers with "Ancient Magic" before they activate, you can gain an advantage by weakening their attacks.
Lower the Difficulty to Story if You Can't Win
If you really can't win, lower the difficulty to "Story". Not only will the damage when hit decrease significantly, but also the moment when the enemy attacks will be in slow motion, making it much easier to win.

Differences in Difficulty and How to Change |
Examine the Book and Watch the Cutscene After the Battle
After the battle, examine the book at the back of the area. After watching two types of cutscenes by examining the book, you will be returned to the library and the quest will be cleared.
