Fight while switching between a maximum of 16 spells

In Hogwarts Legacy, you can fight by switching between a maximum of 16 spells. At the beginning, you have a limited palette of 4 spells, which increases further as your progress, allowing for a variety of combat styles depending on the situation.

Note that by pressing the R2 button quickly, you can also perform regular attacks. It is recommended to combine spells and regular attacks to connect combos while fighting.

List of spell acquisition methods and effects

Each spell has its own cooldown

Each spell has its own cool time

Each spell you have set has its own cooldown. The more powerful the spell, the longer the cooldown. It takes time before you can cast again, so make use of regular attacks and other spells in the meantime.

When targeted by enemies, a circle appears above your head

When targeted by enemies, a circle appears above your head

When targeted by enemies and about to be attacked, a circle appears above your head. When you sense an enemy's attack, it is recommended to dodge or deflect it with the triangle button.

Deflect enemy attacks with the triangle button

Restraining enemies with a long press of the triangle button

By pressing the triangle button at the right timing, you can deflect enemy attacks. Deflecting enemy attacks allows you to counterattack immediately, so when a circle appears above your head, press the triangle button.

Furthermore, when deflecting, holding down the triangle button will restrain the enemy with Stupefy. After lifting them into the air, follow up with regular attacks or spells to connect combos and deal damage.

Recommended combo combinations

Destroy barriers with magic of the same color

Barriers are easier to destroy with magic of the same color

Some enemies may attack by putting up a barrier using Protego, but it is easier to destroy them with spells of the same color. It can be significantly faster to deplete the barrier compared to regular attacks or spells from a different type, so it is recommended to set various types of spells as a countermeasure against enemies with barriers.

Barriers can also be destroyed with Ancient Magic Throw

Barriers can also be broken with Ancient Magic Throw. If there are boxes or barrels nearby that can be thrown, make active use of Ancient Magic Throw.

Methods to destroy barriers (Protego) and countermeasures

Activate Ancient Magic by filling up the blue meter

Activate Ancient Magic by filling up the blue gauge

When the blue meter on your HP meter is filled up, you can activate Ancient Magic. Ancient Magic is a powerful attack that can be used by pressing L1 and R1 simultaneously while the blue meter is filled. The blue meter can be filled by connecting combos and picking up blue light that appears when attacking.

How to fill and use the Ancient Magic gauge

Make effective use of potions and plants

Make effective use of Potions and plants

During battles, you can use potions and plants to strengthen yourself before attacking enemies. Potions and plants can be created in the Room of Requirement, so make sure to prepare them in advance.

Dodge Attacks that Cannot be Blocked by Protego

For attacks that cannot be blocked by Protego, try dodging with a roll. Since there is a possibility of Protego being broken when defending, it is recommended to roll and counterattack instead.

Quickly Destroy the Enemy's Barrier with Spells of the Same Color

Barriers are easily destroyed with magic of the same color

If the enemy has a barrier with Protego, quickly destroy it with spells of the same color. Using spells of the same color as the barrier makes it easy to break, allowing you to defeat the enemy efficiently.

Methods to Destroy and Counter Barriers (Protego)

Connect Combos with Regular Attacks and Spells

Connect combos with regular attacks during magic intervals

During battle, after using spells, connect combos with regular attacks. Connecting combos not only fills up the Ancient Magic meter but also makes blue light more likely to drop, allowing you to defeat enemies efficiently.
