How to Unlock: In the Shadow of the Study

Clear: In the Shadow of the Bloodline and The High Keep

One of the conditions for the quest, "In the Shadow of the Study',' is to clear the relationship quest, "In the Shadow of the Bloodline." In the Shadow of the Bloodline can be unlocked after clearing the main quest, "In the Shadow of the Estate."

You must also clear the main quest, "The High Keep" and receive the owl mail from Sebastian. If you have not yet cleared these quests, proceed with the main story quest first.

Talk outside the Slytherin common room

"In the Shadow of the Study'' starts by talking to Sebastian outside the Slytherin common room. It's faster to fast travel to the Lower Staircase, but if it's not open yet, follow the guide from the Defence Against the Dark Arts Class or the Central Hall.

Light 3 braziers with Confringo

After talking with Sebastian and Ominis, light the three braziers placed around you to proceed. Use Revelio to highlight the brazier on the pillar, and use Confringo to quickly light up three locations.

Incendio has a short range and is not suitable for ignition.

The flames go out quickly, so there are strict time limits. It is difficult to ignite the fire all the way with the short-ranged Incendio. Ignite it with the long-ranged Confringo instead.

Repair the stone carving with Reparo

After solving the brazier's mechanism, chant "Reparo" to the stones rolling on the ground to repair the mural. After the repair is complete, talk to Ominis and he will use Parseltongue to open the door.

The gate is closed and you cannot proceed further. There is a key with a snake on it. Turn the dial to open the gate. You can open the gate by matching the two symbols on the gate with the symbols on the key dial.

If you fail to solve the puzzle, you will receive damage.

If you can't adjust the dial within the time limit, a snake will attack and damage you. The damage will not heal naturally unless you leave the room, so if you are attacked, use Wiggenweld to recover before your HP reaches zero.

Learn Crucio and escape from the room

Once you are locked in a secret room, proceed with the conversation with Sebastian and Ominis. If you choose the middle or bottom option in the conversation with Sebastian, you can learn Crucio and escape from the room.

Furthermore, if you select the "Very Well. I don't want to learn the Cruciatus Curse" option, you can still escape from the room. However, you will not be able to learn Crucio. There is no benefit to choosing the top option. So unless you want to enjoy roleplaying without learning dark magic, choose the middle or bottom option.

Get the Spellbook and exit the study.

After escaping from the secret room, go to the study and take the Spellbook on the desk. After taking it, finish the conversation with Sebastian, examine the revolving door in the back, and exit the study to complete the quest.

A sequel will occur when you clear "Fire and Vice"

The next quest, "In the Shadow of Discovery,'' occurs after clearing the main quest "Fire and Vice.'' If you have already cleared it, select "Wait" from the map to allow time to pass.

Reward

Unforgivable Curse: Crucio

If you select the second or third options during the quest, you can learn Crucio.

Has the effect of blocking movement and dealing damage.

Crucio has the effect of blocking the enemy's movement, increasing the damage taken, and continuously dealing damage. This is a recommended spell when you want to deal damage all at once.
